Tiring day

It was tough going back to work today. 4:30 came awful early this morning. We were short handed today. We still had a lot of people on leave today. They will all be back tomorrow. It looks like our overtime will continue until around March or April. My knees and elbows are sore tonight from being on them almost all day. I had to finish the work I was doing last week. Thank goodness I got it done. Tomorrow is December, where has this year gone? The big buildup for Christmas really ramps up.

Vacation over

Today was the last day of my mini vacation. Don’t mind going to work tomorrow but not looking forward to getting so early in the morning. It has been nice sleeping in the last five days. Didn’t play golf today but got stuff done around the house. Mowed the front yard and hung the icicle lights. Toni, Mary and Mike (Mary’s boyfriend) raked the leaves, redid the extra driveway and put up the Christmas blow ups. They also cleaned out the garage and took the stuff to the dump. I will take some pictures and put them in a future blog.

Family day

Well, I didn’t get the outside lights or blow ups up. It was a little cool today. Toni, Lee and Mary went and got their nails done today. While they were gone I took care of the turkey. We had our Thanksgiving dinner today. We managed to get everything done and ate in time for the girls to go to a girls gathering with Travis’s family. They got the leftovers put up before they left. I did the dishes and now I am relaxing and watching TV. Watched football most of the day. I am going to try and play golf tomorrow with Will. It is suppose to be a little warmer and sunny. Go chance we will get to play.

Black Friday

Well, the girls got up early this morning and hit the road to go shopping. They were there when the doors opened. I slept in until about 7:00. Their planning session last night worked out well. They were back home a little after 8:00. They even took Mary to work. They got everything they went for. We met Travis and Ginnie at Kountry Kitchen for breakfast. When we got home I cleaned the turkey fryer pot. They went and picked Mary up from work and went shopping again. While they were gone I put the turkey cooker up and got the Christmas stuff out.

When they got home Lee helped me put up the Christmas tree. Now they just need to decorate it. Tomorrow I get to put up the outside lights and blow ups.  It is only suppose to be in the lower 50’s tomorrow just like today. It was so nice yesterday. It was in the mid 60’s. It always seems to be cold the day after Thanksgiving when all the work has to be done. I will wait until the afternoon to do the work tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving

It was a pretty good day today. I got up and fried the turkey after Toni went and got a new tank of gas. We had a very nice dinner at Travis’s aunts house. We hope that everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. We got home around 3:30 and didn’t do much else.  Toni and Lee did a little shopping. Now they are sitting at the kitchen table plotting their shopping plans for in the morning. After they are done, we are all going out to breakfast. Talked to my sister in Phoenix for over an hour tonight. It had been awhile since we last talked. It would be nice if we could all be closer together so we could see each other more often. That is wishful thinking and the phone will have to do.

Disappointing day

Slept in today, got up around 7:00. Toni took Ginnie to school and Mary to work. We went out and had breakfast. Got home  around 9:30 and called Will about playing golf. It was not raining. We decided to play around 11:30. Got to Havelock and it stated raining. Meet Will at the golf course and we decided to try and play Sunday. What a bummer. Got a hair cut , bought a new game for the computer called Farcry. Played it most of the day. Dinner was nice because we had everyone here (Lee, Mary and Ginnie). Have to get up tomorrow and get everything ready to fry the turkey.

Thank God it’s Tuesday

I was glad to see this day come. It was a long one. We had our feed today. Smithfields was pretty good. I had to work in the lower passageway today. To work there you either have to be on your knees, lay on your stomach or side. Not very comfortable. We were glad to hear that the grandkids got their booster seats. The picture of them was great. They both have such cute smiles. I am glad that they love them so much. It’s a joy to see someone appreciate something that you made. I am going to try to play golf with my friend Will tomorrow. Hopefully it has dried out some. It was cloudy today but no rain.

Long day

It has been a very long day. Four o’clock came awful early this morning. I found myself napping not long after I got home today. This blog will be short because when I get done with this writing I am going to bed.  One more long day and then I am off for the rest of the week. We had light rain for most of the day. It does not look good for me playing golf Wednesday. The course holds water pretty good and after all the rain we have had it will be really muddy. Hopefully we get sun most of the day tomorrow.

Lazy day

Did not do much today. Toni and I went out to breakfast since I forgot to get stuff the other day. Went to Walmart afterwards to get a small turkey to fry for Thanksgiving. We are going to Travis’s family for Thanksgiving. We went last year and had a good time. We will have our family Thanksgiving Saturday. Didn’t do much else the rest of the day. Will be going to bed early since I have to be at work at 5:00 am. Not looking forward to it. Salina and Christopher you should be getting the booster seats tomorrow. Let us know. It started raining about an hour ago. It is suppose to rain most of the day tomorrow.

A long day

Today just seemed to drag by. The reason was I had to work and I really did not want to. I stayed busy but time still dragged by. The highlight of the day was having lunch with Toni. We do this anywhere from one to two days a week. I only have a half of an hour for lunch so she brings lunch and we eat in the car. One day weekends suck. At least I only have to work two days next week. But those two days are ten hour days. I won’t be very good company those two days. It was cloudy today but no rain. Can’t say the same about tomorrow. It is suppose to rain all day long.

Paying the Government more

My supervisor is doing his part to getting the government more money. I have to work tomorrow and preshift (2 hours early) next Monday and Tuesday. I do not looking  forward to going to work at 5:00 am. Thank God I only have to work two days next week. We will have our annual Thanksgiving lunch next Tuesday. We get an extra half hour for lunch. We are going to have Smithfields Chicken and BBQ. The best part is we don’t have to pay anything. Our supervisor and work leaders are paying for it. Oh by the way, it rained or drizzled today.

Girl Scouts Thanksgiving Dinner

Tonight Ginnie had her Girl Scout Dinner. We have been to many of these dinners. We started with Lee, then Mary and now Ginnie. I think this is my last year for this event. We were crowded in the room, I had a little boy sitting across from me and I can’t count the number of times I was kicked. People are just rude now days. Parents don’t control their kids, they bump into you and can’t even say they are sorry. All you were doing was sitting there minding your own business. I guess I am just getting old and set in my ways. Give me the relative quiet of my house and family.

Another rainy day

It has rained on and off all day long. There is also a good chance of rain tomorrow. We need the rain but these rainy days are getting old. I am starting to feel my age. I worked in the bilge of the helicopter today which means I was on my knees all day. I am paying for it now. And I have about another day before I finish this job. I will be sore another day at least. I am looking forward to next week because of Thanksgiving and I only have to work Monday and Tuesday. I am going to try and play golf next Wednesday. It is suppose to be pretty nice that day(no rain).

A Ho-hum day

Today was a very normal day. Work went well and actually went by pretty fast because I stayed busy all day long. It started clouding up again today. It looks like out sunshine is gone for a few days again. There is a 30-40 percent chance of rain the 3 days. It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a little over a week away. Then only a month to Christmas. Where has this year gone?

Productive day

We got a major accomplishment done today. The grandkids booster seats got shipped today. It has only been a couple of months since they were here. It cost more to ship them than it did to make them. Our visit with the dietician today went pretty good. She was pleased to hear of our eating habits. We just need to watch the amount of fat and cholesterol we eat. So, no major diet changes. Thank God. I went and played golf after our appointment. I could tell it had been a couple of weeks since I last played. It was very enjoyable and I got my exercise also. Back to the grind stone of work tomorrow.

Sunny day

Can you believe it. The sun actually came out today. It was also a little warmer. It was a do nothing day. Cooked breakfast this morning. It was the first time in a few weeks. I normally cook on one day of the weekend. Lounged around and watched TV for the day. How about them Heels! Watched Carolinas mens basketball team win their third game of the year. Big game for them next week. They have to play Ohio State. This cat of Mary’s is nuts. It will play with just about anything. It will even play with a plastic bag. It has attached itself to Toni. It follows her everywhere. Toni left to get Mary and the cat has sat at the front ever since she left. I might try to play golf tomorrow after we see the dietician.

Another gloomy day

Well, the weatherman was not right about today. It was cool and misty all day long. We did not see any sun. Maybe we see the sun tomorrow. I guess it wasn’t to bad a day to work, since it was so gloomy. Toni told me that Ginnie bowled a 134 in her first game today. She rolled 4 strikes in a row. She was so excited. Ginnie really loves to bowl. Year before last she won two tournaments for her age group. Her and her partner each won $100 for taking first place in doubles at the state tournament. Her winnings are in scholarship fund. The highlight of the day was watching North Carolina football team beat Miami. This year sure is going by fast. Can you believe that Thanksgiving is week after next?

Food for thought

When you have to write something everyday, you realize just how much of a routine you get into. You do basically the same thing  day in and day out. It was another cold damp day. We are suppose to see the sun tomorrow. We have had more than 8 inches of rain the last few days. Message received on the booster seats. We are going to ship them out Monday. I have that day off. Toni and I have to see the Dietician because of our cholesterol  levels. I guess we will be given recommendations about our diet. I can see now, this is not going to be much fun.

Another Miserable Day

It was rainy, cool and windy today. It is suppose to be like that again tomorrow. We need the rain but I will be glad when this rain stops. We have had between 5 and 51/2 inches of rain in the last 2 days. Had a normal day at work today and found out that I will be working this Saturday. We also found out that our supervisor will be retiring in January. I am kind of envious, if I could retire now I would. But as it stands now, I have 7 more years before that will happen.  It seems like a lifetime.

A day to remember

On this special day lets take a minute to remember all those that have served and are presently serving this great country of ours. If you haven’t noticed the last couple of days I am very proud to be a veteran and to have served this great country. Weather wise, it was not a good day today. It has rained all day long and is suppose to last until Friday. We need the rain but it sure makes  a miserable day.  It is nice to have a break in the middle of the week. Tomorrow it is back to work.

Happy Birthday

Today is a very special day for me. Today is the 234th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. To all former, present and future Marines, Happy Birthday. It takes someone special to be a Marine (the few, the proud). The girls (Toni, Lee, Mary & Ginnie) went to the school to play bingo tonight, they had a blast. It will be nice to sleep in in the morning. To bad it is suppose to rain. Once again, Happy Birthday Marines. Semper Fi.

Ordinary Monday

Weekends go by so fast it seems. They seem to go by faster than weekdays. The good thing about this week is that it is a short week with Veterans Day Wednesday. We have a 70 percent chance of rain on Wednesday. Don’t get me wrong, we need the rain but why on a day off? I feel for you Christopher. I just watch the Steelers score on an interception. Tomorrow is a special day. It is the Marines Corps 234th birthday. More on that tomorrow.

The cat

Another relaxing day today. Mary has a cat named Daisy. Let me tell you, this cat is nuts. It follows Toni everywhere. Daisy gets right under her feet. I don’t know how many times Toni has almost tripped because of her. This cat will be lying down and all of a sudden just jump up and go on a rampage. She just runs all over the place for about two minutes and then all of a sudden stop. She also likes to play with baby potatoes in the kitchen.

A lazy day

Not much happened today. Just relaxed around the house. Toni went to bowling with Ginnie. Have not seen Mary since last evening and Toni said she would be back sometime tomorrow afternoon. She uses us like a boarding house. I guess the best thing that happened today was we found turkeys for .40 cent per pound. We bought two, one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas. The holidays are coming fast.

A very uplifting day

Yesterday I talked about the cake cutting ceremony practice. Today the cake cutting took  place. It was very uplifting and brought back a lot of very pleasant memories. I guess I am a true blue Marine. When the Marine Corps Hymn was played, it sent chills up my spine. I have spent the majority of my life in service to our great country. First, my 22 years in the Marine Corps and now 9 years in role of support to the Marine Corps by working on the CH-46 Helicopter. I also was told that I do not have to work this Saturday and preshift next week. It was a great day!!!!

A day of remembrance

First, it was a very sad event that happened at Ft. Hood today. Our prayers go out to all the families touched by this sad event. At work today, the Marines were practicing the cake cutting ceremony. For those of you who don’t know, next Tuesday (Nov. 10th) is the Marine Corps Birthday. It brought back a lot of memories. I am a retired Marine Corps 1stsgt. Tomorrow is the cake cutting ceremony. It has made a mess at work because the ceremony is being held in our hanger. We’ve had to move aircraft and everything that is used to work on them all around.  It is an inconvenience but well worth it.

An average day

Today was very normal for us. On the bright side, it appears that I had a mild case of the 24 hour bug. Ginnie is getting better and the verdict is still out on Mary. My boss is trying to make sure that we have a very good Christmas this year. We are having to work again this Saturday and more than likely have to work 10 hour days next week.

Sickness in our house

It appears that as of today There are two more of us sick. We will know for sure in the next couple of days. Mary and myself are starting to feel bad. On a happier note, Lee and Travis will close on their house the week of Thanksgiving. They are very excited. They want to have Thanksgiving Dinner at their new house. I don’t know, it probably won’t happen. For those of you that don’t know, Mary is our 19 year old, Lee is our 24 year old and Travis is Ginnies father. Our one day son-in-law.

Sick Grandchild

Ginnie was not feeling good this morning. She did not go to school and Toni made a doctors appointment for her. When they got back we found out that Ginnie has a mild case of the Flu. Ginnie even got the Flu shot last month. The doctor said if she did not get the shot she would be in the hospital now.  She cannot go back to school until Thursday. Other than that not much going on here.

Start the Blogging

We will attempt to do a blog everyday this month. Of course, this might be quite difficult since we live a quiet life. Our big news is Mary moved back in this last week. For those that don’t know, Mary is our 19 year old daughter. So much for our freedom from children. They just never seem to cut the apron strings. I am keeping busy thanks to the government. I am working on average every other Saturday. It should be a good Christmas. Salina we are enjoying the family blog very much.
